...The Day I knew would finally Arrive...

It happened...began at the kitchen table...lingered over dinner and then at bedtime...
"Mom, how does the sperm get to the egg?"

"UUUhhhh, uhh, well, that is a question to ask daddy when he gets home. So, do you wanna have another helping or have me read to you?" I quickly change the subject and rise to pour some tea so as not to be noticed that I've just blushed and my internal temperature has risen and all of a sudden, it's sooooo hot in this room...
This month, the ICR magazine arrived and in commemoration of Charles Darwin's birthday and the 200th year of his theory of evolution, we've been reading the magazine for science...
This particular article: Being Made in His Image, set the wheels in motion...I could see it on their faces...so innocent, so curious, so interested.
What's a mother to do? This is definitely dad's department. He has the right words, the calm voice and he leads the boys to become men, just like him.
I marched to our room, where I'd purchased a book called, "What's The Big Deal?"
and placed it on his side of the dresser...then when he came home, I informed him that 'The time has come'...
Well, I got the same question again the next day, so I reminded my love that they are really curious and would he please take steps in that direction! He did not need a book, but these boys sit quietly when read to and this was a subject that needed their full attention. Either way, they most likely would have sat still for this particular subject!
Last nite began the discussion, questions, etc...I was nowhere to be found.
Isaac's response: 'that's disgusting!' Caleb had no words...although today, he came to me and said, 'Dad told us how the sperm gets to the egg..." as Isaac chimed in, 'yeah, it's disgusting!' Once again, no more words from Caleb. I said it was a wonderful gift from God and then, 'are you hungry?' Wonder what the deal is with offering them food?
I knew the day would arrive, I just thought it wouldn't catch me off guard so.
When I was talking to Daddy about the subject, He reminded me that they have pure thoughts in regard to this matter...they haven't been tainted by the enemy, or experienced the twisted perversion of the world...that made me think about the matter in a totally different light. This thing called intimacy is just that: it's private, beautiful, and healthy, not dirty. Everything in creation is beautiful and expresses His thoughts on the subject. Is there something in my thoughts that have yet to be made cleaner and healthier or more open about? And I thought I was so open about this topic...except with our children, hmmm.

Caleb has a 'crush' on the little girl across the street and this past Sat. at Home Depot, the free craft was a wooden jewelry box. Of course, I think both should be for me, but Caleb wanted to give his to the girl across the street! So, he approached his father and asked if he could give it to her. They talked, and tonite I contacted her mother (she's a single mom and we wanted to get her permission first) and she said he could...he has sanded, stained and decorated the inside with that soft fabric jewelry boxes have...so, on Sat, he's planning on giving it...we did speak of how the friendship will be more difficult because now she knows his true feelings and hers might not be the same...he's willing to take that risk...just like love...taking risks. His name is Caleb, of course.

on this snowy morning, these words settle on everything in me that is not already covered and they bring the beauty of innocence, and purity and sanctification. your two young men are blessed to learn from your learning.

Laure,
Yes, how grateful for a man of God that can take the reigns in this matter! ;o) ...and yes, I am definitely learning.

Oh my, oh my ... I dread the day. I have two girls, so does this mean that I have to deliver the news? Yikes....

Jennifer!
Oh my is right...but I got that job with our oldest. Our only daughter, and I can tell you that we have the closest relationship a mother and daughter can have...we talk about sex all the time now...she's married with two children and because we were always open with that subject, things have only gotten better...but it wasn't easy to take that leap of faith with her! Risky business, this motherhood venture!
