It's Time To Move

...not locations on the planet Earth, but from Blogger to Wordpress.

After months of tossing around the idea for a new website and name, I took the plunge and bought a domain name and began to work...(late into the night so as not to be interrupted!) which is why I've been so silent here).

I have to say that it's difficult to make the move because I'm sooo familiar with Blogger and I've had this site for such a long time.  I needed  a place to showcase my photography as well as continue to blog and I believe I've found a great place to do that.

I think you'll agree that it's a much nicer neighborhood.

I promise to let you know when I'm all done unpacking!

Keep an eye out for me.  Should only be a couple of days.

Until we meet again.

Should You Have a Yard Sale?

When I answered the phone this morning, my sister requested that I either talk her into or out of having a yard sale this weekend.  One after another, I hit her with a bunch of questions to get her thinking.

Being the entrepreneur she is, she commented on how I need to make money writing on my blog about yard sales...I still don't know what she meant by that, but I love her nonetheless.

But anyways, her challenge to ask inspired me to write.

So, without any further ado, here are some questions, you, my readers, might ask if you're thinking about opening up the garage or hauling all that superfluous 'junk' you've hung onto for years to the front yard to display for treasure seekers. (This is NOT the case with my sister, in case anyone thought I was talking about her!)

  • Are your treasures valuable enough that when the sale is over, you've earned at least minimum wage for your time?
  • Do you have to purchase a permit?  If so, might there be someone that could bring their stuff over to sell and keep you company as well as split the cost of the permit fee?
  • What's the weather supposed to be like?  This one is very important! Planning and preparing for this event, which this would be, is futile if no one comes because it's raining cats and hogs, not dogs!
  • Perhaps you could invite your children to price some of their treasures so they can go to Dairy Queen when it's all over and splurge on a cone?! (This is a great motivator to get rid of excess junk!)
  • Are you willing to donate what didn't sell to a ministry/organization or will you drag all your leftovers back in the house? (I hate the cleaning up part!)
  • Might there be a God moment that you need to be on the lookout for?  Nothing is wasted, especially our time, when it's given for His purposes.  Everyone needs encouragement and/or prayer about SOMETHING!  Why not this weekend?
  • Is this something you've thought about for a while but just haven't taken the time to do?
  • After you answer these questions, run through the list one more time, asking the God of everything to guide your steps and proceed in faith.
I'm sure this isn't an exhaustive list of questions, but it's a start!

If this post was ANY benefit to you, would you drop me a note and let me know...

My sister decided to have a sale.  I can't wait to hear how much money she made in her attempt to clean house before they move...again!

I think she ought to send me a few bucks for all my great advice!  Or at least link this post to her Facebook page!

Love you, Karyn.

Until next time,

She's Grown Up Before My Eyes

It was a VERY HOT afternoon late last summer when the call came. There was an urgency in her voice: "May I come over, please." "Right now?"

By the time their vehicle pulled in our driveway, somehow I knew.  He dropped her off and headed back down the street as she came to the door.

Was it fitting to announce on the way to a funeral that the marriage was dead to him and  he wanted a divorce?  "You're not going to change my mind THIS time, either.  It doesn't matter what anyone says.  If I'm wrong, God will forgive me."

To Live Free Or Fearful? THAT Is The Question.

pancakes with yogurt and strawberries
Turning Shakespeare's line into my own is helping me to pound out the truth I know now.

Sometimes, I get so tied up with trying to figure out  the right words to share what's in my heart that I almost give up.

It was kinda like that with eating right.  The exact moment eludes me as I try to remember when everything changed in my thinking and I began to experience freedom in my eating habits and behaviors.  I believe it wasn't a moment, but rather a daily decision not to give up.  A determination to believe God had heard my prayers  to change me and HIS answer to walk by faith in this area.  Baby steps of trusting Him because I knew I HAD TO do something for my health.

How To Measure The Span Of A Life

"Today you are you!  That is truer than true!  There is no one alive who is you-er than you!"  Dr. Suess

I wonder if Mr. Suess realized he nailed the truth each one of us needs to hear, especially as we celebrate another birthday.

decadent chocolate cake
Friday marked the twenty-eighth anniversary of my twenty-fifth birthday! For those of you that don't want to take the time to add, that's fifty-three candles! My sweet, loving and thoughtful daughter-in-law knew so many candles were NOT necessary, and instead gave my granddaughter a #9 to push down into this rich, chocolate covered cake!  No regrets here.  It was so moist and delicious.
