~The Sound of Silence~

10-26-08 045
How quickly time vanishes never to return as we walk away from moments that beckon us and yet we refuse to pause long enough to revel and take note...
we are just a breath, a whisper, one leaf falling to the ground amidst a forest of trees that drop their coats each season?
Today was one such moment...the sound of silence...we'd pause, sit and just listen...
The sound of silence.
The beauty of hearing the breeze without interruption, the only music a chickadee or the vireo delighting in their water dish...to hear absolutely nothing. ~Selah~

Each time we take these walks and I watch these little boys growing up before me, I muse that my life span has shrunk...
They kept calling me 'senior citizen' cuz 'you know, mom, you are forty-six, ya know!' One would walk very close beside me since I forgot to bring the right shoes. It was a rocky terrain and they took it upon themselves to protect me from cliffs, rocks, steep descents, as well as any strange men or hikers.
I reminded them that to find silence one has to go looking and then when it's found, it's a gift not to be taken for granted. There are so few places one can go to just sit and hear their heartbeat and hear His voice singing over them.

Where do you go to find silence so you can revel in this gift?

Some people are uncomfortable with silence. It screams rather than soothes.
I suppose it's that way for a reason.

I insist Silence is beauty.

As William Shakespeare said:
The silence often of pure innocence persuades when speaking fails.

I believe sometimes silence is communication that can only be heard when the craziness of a hurried life is slowed, halted or broken down and can no longer move forward.

"True friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable."

How true.

Hi Daune,

I have accidentally left a reply to your message on my blog!

Love the black and white photo of your boys. It appears as if they are at one with nature sitting in the forest.

May God bless you and your family today

I go outside, under my pine tree. It's not quite silence, but it's pretty darn close.

You made me laugh with your comment on Seedlings the other day, btw. : )
