Pulling Teeth...

As I sat up in bed this morning reading and enjoying a few rare moments of alone time, I could hear these words coming from the next room, "The floss isn't working, I'll be right back... (pause for a second)...we have the choice of using a hammer or these pliers...," as well as 'guy' words: "Be a man, be a man..."sung to some unknown tune coming from Caleb's head...lots of giggles, jokes, comments and finally, "Mom, look at my tooth. It's backwards!"
"Please son, go to the bathroom and get it out. I'm not fond of blood dripping in your mouth. Let Caleb help you pull it out."
Finally, they emerged triumphant with a bloody tooth wrapped in toilet paper, a tissue blotting the blood in his mouth and a hole missing on the right side!
Both felt victorious, and thankfully, it was without the use of a hammer! (I think they said the pliers kept slipping!) Caleb did, indeed, pull it out for him~!

Such was our day...full of giggles, and jokes and boys that could not, for the life of them, sit still, concentrate or remember anything we discussed yesterday-it was just like pulling teeth! Narrative vs. Expository; a homophone, a phonogram, and '3/8 is what part of 16'? Riveting information that will someday prove that they can appear on the show, "Are you smarter than a fifth grader" and win for sure, thanks to mom!
We also finished reading, "Twenty One Balloons" and what a tale that was...they loved it. Love is reading, "Bridge to Terabithia" (their pick, not mine) at bedtime before the Word and it's no wonder the imagination of these two make my head spin...but then again, I have to say I know no two boys who can tell you of such marvelous places they go.
Imagination is a gift that I never want to see them lose by a world that squashes others for dreaming...
By the Spirit of the Living Creator God in them, perhaps they, too, one day will spin stories as C.S. Lewis did for all generations.
To show forth the marvelous depths of our Lord and express His imagination to a dull world, this journey is worth my head spinning a little!
